Q3: Will all patients die of Minamata disease?

A3: The severely-affected patient may die, but not all patients will die of Minamata disease.

Commentary:
There is wide variation of symptoms from mild to severe in Minamata disease as well as other diseases.
Some of the patients who developed in mid-1950s had severe symptoms and died within a few weeks after showing the symptoms.
As of the end of March 2001, 1,171 certified Minamata disease patients are alive.
