In Niigata (1971) and Kumamoto (1973), judgments were given in favor of the plaintiffs (patients) in trials with the responsible companies as the defendants.
More than 10 cases have been brought before courts in total.
Most of these actions have been discontinued since a political solution was attempted for the problem of Minamata disease in 1995, except for one case.
